Performance Management and Development
Developing the ability to manage performance well is critical for all organisations. Performance management is an on-going process which supports individual and organisational delivery and development by helping individuals and teams to:
- know what is expected of them and how that contributes to the bigger picture
- have the skills and ability to deliver those expectations
- be supported by the organisation to develop their capability to meet these expectations
- receive feedback on their performance
- have the chance to contribute to individual and team aims and objectives
We design and implement performance management frameworks that provide:
- clarity at the individual, team and organisational level on what needs to be done to meet strategic objectives so that energy, focus and resource can be clearly targeted
- opportunities to identify and address individual development needs and ensure the organisation has the right skills for the future
- a clear line of sight so individuals can see the impact their efforts are having on achieving the organisation's goals
- support for the development of trust based relationships which encourage focused discussion and review around individual contribution and professional development to help foster a culture of high performance and accountability
Reward Management
Reward management is about more than what people get paid. We take a total reward approach that helps organisations answer the wider question of 'why work here?'
Our reward work includes:
- UK and international pay and benefits benchmarking exercises
- review and renewal of pay and grading structures, including job evaluation
- terms and conditions benchmarking – including employee contracting frameworks and international mobility
- review and design of total reward frameworks
We scoped and facilitated an international benchmark reward project for the humanitarian aid sector including salary, benefits and terms and conditions review. We provided facilitation for working groups and produced a good practice, no nonsense guide to developing a reward policy which was warmly received inside and outside the sector. This now runs as an annual salary survey club and has joined forces with a sister survey in north America.
We conducted a major third sector research project in 2008 in collaboration with People in Aid into executive remuneration involving participation of 23 charities. The output was a report for use with trustees and remuneration committees and to stimulate further debate within the sector.
